Adobe Flash is computer software which enables the user to add animation and interactivity to the web pages he is building. Formerly known as Macromedia Flash, the product was introduced in 1996 and is a multimedia platform which was originally acquired by Macromedia and is now being developed and distributed by the software company Adobe Systems.

The common usage for Flash is to make advertisements, animation and a variety of other web page Flash components. It is also used to add video into web pages, create games and most recently, in order to develop rich Internet applications.

The power of Flash can also be used to manipulate vector graphics and raster graphics in addition to supporting bidirectional streaming of video and audio. Adobe Flash has within it ActionScript, which is an “object-oriented” language. After the saving and distributing of the created content, the animation or videos can then be displayed on a variety of computer systems and other devices utilizing Adobe Flash Player. Adobe Flash Player is found on the most common web browsers for free, and some mobile phones and other devices can use it in a simpler form called “Flash Lite.”
